Jazz & Stone | NPR

January 9, 2016 by Angela Evancie

For NPR’s Weekend Edition Saturday. Vermont musician Jamie Masefield has been improvising on the jazz mandolin for decades. He’s recorded six albums, including one with Blue Note Records, and brings everything from folk and funk to the literature of Leo Tolstoy to the stage. But some years back, his eclectic creativity brought him to an unexpected second career. It involves some heavy lifting.

Beetcoin / Marketplace Weekend

September 19, 2014 by Angela Evancie

I talked to Marketplace Weekend’s Lizzy O’Leary about Slow Money, a nationwide effort dedicated to connecting food producers with investors right in their community, and making investing accessible to the everywoman. How will they do that? With Beetcoin. This interview came out of a story about Slow Money’s launch in Vermont that I first reported for Vermont Public Radio, and a follow-up interview that VPR’s Mitch Wertlieb did with Slow Money founder Woody Tasch.

Goat Local? / NPR

April 1, 2014 by Angela Evancie

For NPR’s Morning Edition. A project that provides new Americans with the opportunity to raise and sell goats to members of their community is growing, thanks in part to its ability to make use of an abundant – and often unwanted – class of animal: male kids from goat dairy farms. An earlier version of this story aired on Vermont Public Radio on March 23, 2014.

April 22, 2013 by Angela Evancie

More and more writers are setting their novels and short stories in worlds, not unlike our own, where the Earth’s systems are noticeably off-kilter. The genre has come to be called climate fiction — “cli-fi,” for short. For NPR’s Weekend Edition Saturday. To stream the story, click here.
